Medical gauze pads are cut and processed from absorbent cotton gauze.
Pads without the X-ray detectable element are mainly used to clean skin, mucosa or wounds, and to protect wounds together with common wound-care medications. Pads with the X-ray detectable element are mainly used to absorb internal exudate during surgery.
