Basic Information on the Current Standard
Technical Requirements for Single-Use Medical Protective Clothing, numbered GB 19082-2009, is a mandatory national standard issued by the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine and the Standardization Administration of China, with an issuance date of May 6, 2009 and an implementation date of March 1, 2010, replacing GB 19082-2003. It applies to single-use medical protective clothing worn when there may be contact with potentially infectious blood, body fluids, secretions, and airborne particulate matter during medical work.
Main Technical Performance Requirements
The standard specifies the key performance that protective clothing should possess, including: liquid barrier performance (resistance to water penetration and resistance to synthetic blood penetration), filtration efficiency (particulate matter filtration efficiency ≥ 70%), breaking strength and elongation at break (in both dry and wet states), flame retardance, antistatic performance, and the sterility requirements for sterile products. The protective clothing must not be reused and must be marked with the words "single use."
Applicable Scenarios of the Standard
The standard applies to single-use protective clothing used by medical institutions when protection against infection risks is required during diagnosis and treatment, nursing, surgery, and other work. It does not apply to protective clothing used in industrial or other non-medical fields.
Developments Regarding the Updated Version
On November 27, 2023, the State Administration for Market Regulation and the Standardization Administration of China issued GB 19082-2023 (Single-Use Medical Protective Clothing), planned to be implemented on December 1, 2025, and will then supersede the current GB 19082-2009 version. Relevant manufacturing enterprises and procuring entities should pay attention to the transition period arrangements.
